Heckler & Koch UMP
Heckler & Koch UMP has developed a versatile submachine gun the likes of which did not exist before on the world market. A weapon that can cover three calibres simply by exchanging a few assemblies: 9 mm x 19, .40 S&W and .45 ACP.
Three calibres, one solution
The UMP combines top-rate performance with simple handling and high safety standards. The modular fibre-reinforced polymer receiver guarantees the necessary ruggedness with minimised overall weight. As a typical member of the HK family of weapons, the UMP is a highly-effective, economical alternative for military and law enforcement applications.
Featuring a polymer carcass and a simpler mechanism than the MP5 , the HK UMP is cheaper and lighter. However, it seems to complete the arsenals rather than replacing the MP5 and its considerable commercial and operational success.
In order to correspond to the uses of its preferred market, it was first chambered in .45 ACP then in .40 S&W before having a version in 9 mm Parabellum , the caliber most often used in submachine guns . The 9mm chambered version is easily recognizable by its curved magazines, while the other two versions have straight magazines. The HK UMP can be converted from one caliber to another by changing the barrel , breech and magazine .
